HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer series
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I have a Apple Macbook (1) connected to the HP Envy 4527.  Printing and scanning are functioning well. I managed to do this by following the HP procedure (123.hp.com/setup) for connecting the Printer via Wifi to the laptop.

A second Apple Macbook (2) is using the same printer. I managed to do this  by selecting on this laptap  the printer HP Envy 4527as the standard printer. Printing is functioning well from the laptop. But it is no possible to scan a document and to send it to the Apple Macbook (2).

After selecting Scann on the display of the HP Envy 4527  the name of Macbook (1) is shown, but the name of Macbook (2) is not shown.

How can is manage that it is possible to send a scanned document to Macbook (2)?

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you need information on scanning to your Macbook,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Are you using the application or the front panel of the printer to scan?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

To enable the scan to a computer feature (OS X)

The scan to a computer feature is enabled by default from the factory. Follow these instructions if the feature

has been disabled, and you wish to enable it again.

1. Open HP Utility.

2. Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer.

3. Ensure that Enable Scan to Computer is selected.

To scan an original from the printer control panel

1. Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass.

2. Touch Scan.

3. Touch a computer that you want to scan to.

4. Choose the type of scan you want.

5. Touch OK.

Refer to your user guide (Page.23) for more details

Click here for more details on How to Scan.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hello Riddle_Decipher,

Thank you so much for your aid. Hereby some more explantion on my problem.

What is working well? I have installed HP Envy 4527  on my own Macbook Pro by following the entire HP procedure.  I can scan a single document from the panel of the printer by putting a document in place, select Scanning, then select Macbook Pro Mari. The scanned document is then sent to my Macbook in the folder Images. So this procedure is working perfectly.

What do I  want to do in addation to above situation?

I want to scan from the panel of the printer a document in the same way as a above, but sent it to a different Macbook Pro e.g. Macbook Pro XXX. Therefore I want to have the possibility to select in the last step on the panel of the printer Macbook Pro XXX.

In ohter words I want to create the possibility to scan  a document from the panel of the printer and select to send it wether to Macbook Pro Mari or to Macbook Pro XXX.

I hope that this will give you the information you needed?

Kind regards Mari6

@Mari6

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I understand your concern and I'd like to inform you that HP recommends that you use only one printer at a time for better functionality as it may not detect more than one device on the printer control panel at the same time.

If you wish to use both printer either way, please try upgrading the firmware of the printer and check again.

Hello Riddle Decipher,

Thanks for answering me so soon. For me it is good to know that practicilly spoken it's not possible to have two laptops connected on the printer HP Envy 4527 and to have  for each scan the posibillity to select one of the two laptops on the frontpanel of the printer to send the scanned file to. I will not lose no more time by looking for an apropiate solution.

I found a good alternative for the desired function. I downloaded HP Easy Scan on every laptop. With this program it is possible from any of the two laptops to scan a document and sent it to the laptop you are running the program on. This method implies that both the two laptops as the printer are connected on the same Wifi-network.

For practical reasons it is desirable you have the laptop next to the printer during the scanning proces, because on both devices you have to carry out commands. This way of scanning has the advantage of scanning more than one page and filing them in one document. HP Easy Scan will offer you this possibility during the proces.

Kind regards,]
