My daughter received a Photosmart 6520 printer a few years back and is now trying to use it. But she is unable to bypass the dreaded "Use SETUP cartridges" error message and can't remember ever seeing any setup cartridges when she initially received this printer.
So she decided to just purchased new HP printer cartridges but is still unable to bypass the error message.
I just spent the last 2 hours searching for any ideas on how to bypass this error but nothing seems to work. So I am hoping HP can provide information on how to bypass this error so she can start using this printer.

@drochel, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- The ink cartridges that go with the printers are setup ink cartridges that are designed to initialize the printer.
- These ink cartridges are not available in local stores.
We may have to reset the printer to its factory settings to bypass the error. Let us try these steps:
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
- In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage
Let me know how this goes.
