HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

All previous printers would allow me to print a letter sized document on my 4.9”x4.9” DVD Sleeves. The printer didn’t care. The app I am using generates print area only in the area of the envelope centered in the printer. My most recent working printer HP 7510 worked fine but died. I have tried two new printers HP 7740 and an HP Envy and both will not print due to mismatched paper. I have tried EVERYTHING to get by this issue. Changing form size on printer; Custom doesn’t seem to work at all. I feel the problem is bad design of printer firmware. Instead of an error, it should issue a warning and allow user to ignore. I should be able to print on anything larger than minimum size without jumping through hoops.  I am now looking for an old used printer to perform my task, would would appreciate alternative. This is another example of a company adding unneeded smarts to a dumb device.

Hi @TigerWine,

I understand you would like to know the minimum margin for different media sizes.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

What is the paper size you are trying to print from your printer?

Printer margins are application and paper-handling specific.

Usually, the print margins start from 0.02 mm to 0.2 mm. Also, you can try different readings within that range and see the best one that fits your requirement.

To change the print margins you can try the steps recommended below.

Select your printer in the Printer menu.
Select an option in the Presets menu that applies to your print job or paper type.
Click the unnamed print options menu at the window separator bar to select more settings options.
Unnamed print options pop-up menu open with Layout selected
Unnamed print settings pop-up menu open with Layout selected

Scale to fit the paper size: Print to fit on different paper sizes or scale the original to fit the selected paper size.
Paper Handling print options menu: Select Scale to fit paper size, then select your paper size from the Destination Paper Size menu

Refer to the product specifications of your printer for more information. Click Here

Let me know if this helps!

Have a wonderful day ahead! :slightly_smiling_face:
