I have a HP Officejet 8120e pro which is old  3 months old,  have  already had to change them because ink was showing low, 19 March 2024, Magenta in was showing low this past week, so have bought new cartridges (not installed as yet), however this morning (27/05/24),  the printer is showing that all cartridges are either missing or damage,
I've powered printer on and off, re seated printer cartridges, still showing same issue.

I've always had t HP printers, and this replaces my old hp Officejet pro which I had for over 5 years,.

I may insert the new ink cartridges I have bought, if he issue cannot be resolved by the end off today, but need this looked into, or a replacement.

I've also checked firmware, all upto date

Hi @AGSLEAP,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand it's frustrating to encounter such issues with a relatively new printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure the cartridges you're using are compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e. Using the wrong type can cause detection issues.

Inspect Cartridges: Examine the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks. Ensure the protective tape covering the contacts and nozzles has been removed.

Clean Contacts: Dust or ink residue on the cartridge or printer contacts can cause detection problems. Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the issue persists.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert each cartridge, ensuring they click into place.

Update Printer Firmware: You mentioned that the firmware is up to date, but it might be worth double-checking for any recent updates. Update the firmware on an HP printer

Use New Cartridges: Since you've already bought new cartridges, you might want to try installing them. Sometimes cartridges can be faulty, even if they're new.

Check Printer Settings: Ensure the printer settings are correct and not showing any errors that might cause the printer to misinterpret the cartridge status.

Run Printer Diagnostics: Many HP printers have built-in diagnostics. Check the printer's menu for any available tests or diagnostics that might identify the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
