Hp Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello Guys & Gals,

I am writing to ask a question thou I know it is HP who would have the answer and not likely the community has them.

I have an Hp Officejet Pro 8610 and i like the printer but have a couple minor issues.

The issue is the auto sleep function as when printer sleeps it causes windows warnings of scan doctor not working.

So my question is as follows.

I know every HP printer has hidden menu that HP service techs called "Underware" no joke for real.

I know each printer has its own secret sequence to access the hidden menu and that the setting in it are far better that what the user can see in normal menus.

i know this as a few years ago a HP rep walked me thru entering the hidden menu in a different hp printer.

So does anyone know the sequence to enter the hidden hp menu "underware" for the Hp Officejet Pro 8610?

i know in it is a way to totally disable the auto sleep option.

As said in my old printer I was able to disable sleep using the hidden menu "underware" as a good hp rep was able to help me do it and at the time says the hidden menu is in all HP printers..

So I want to disable sleep on this printer as sleep feature is causing to many issues for me.

Please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Gren

Hello, @Grenpara – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for your continued participation in HP Support Forums. I am glad to be of your assistance!

I understand that you are looking to disable the sleep mode completely by entering the "Underware" menu. While I can guide you to the hidden menu of your printer, I am not sure whether the sleep mode can be disabled completely on this printer.

I would recommend you disable the IPv6 on your printer and assign a public DNS to tackle the sleep mode issues. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

If the issue persists, then please go through the hidden menus of your printer. I am sending you a private message with the steps. Please click on the mailbox icon at the top-right corner to access your inbox.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for the information and help.

What you gave me worked but you are correct that it could not be disbled like my old printer.

I am now doing the steps to shut off IPv6.

I am having the same issues with our printer and not being able to fax I believe due to the sleep mode being engaged.  Could you please send me the Underware menu information?  I have been trying to get this issue resolved for about 8 months.
