My printer sucks. It doesn’t have a screen, just vague buttons that don’t really help me solve my problems. The other day I printed 3 pictures and a letter. When trying to print the 4th picture, the printer ignored me and has done so ever since. I’ve tried unplugging, restarting, etc. It has paper and ink. Why did I get 4 things to print back to back and now the 5th item won’t print. I haven’t been able to call support bc they’re closed by the time I get home and able to call. This is BY FAR the worst printer I’ve ever had. Not user friendly at ALL. Please help!

Hi @Lilahsrn,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your HP Envy 6400 printer. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to get it working again.
Check for Print Queue Issues
Open the Print Queue:
- On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing.
- On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Open Print Queue.
Clear the Print Queue: Cancel all documents in the print queue.
Reset the Printer
- Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug In and Power On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Reinstall Printer Drivers
Uninstall Printer:
- On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove device.
- On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the - button to remove it.
Download and Install the Latest Drivers: Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
Update Firmware
- Check for Firmware Updates: Go to the HP Support website and check if there's a firmware update for your printer model. Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)
- Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free tool to diagnose and resolve printing issues.
Check Network Connection
- Ensure Stable Connection: Make sure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network properly. Restart your router if needed.
- Re-add Printer: Sometimes removing and re-adding the printer on your device can help re-establish the connection.

Try Different Print Methods
- Print from Another Device: Try printing from another device (computer, phone, or tablet) to see if the issue persists.
- Use HP Smart App: Download the HP Smart app on your phone or tablet and try printing through the app. It can sometimes bypass issues that occur when printing from a computer.
Hard Reset
- Factory Reset: Some HP printers can be reset to factory settings. Check your printer’s manual or HP's website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
Check for Error Messages
- Printer Lights: Look for any blinking lights or error messages on the printer. Refer to your printer's manual to interpret these signals.
I hope these steps help resolve your printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
