officejet pro 8610 all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been unable to install the software of my officejet pro 8610 on 3 of my windows 10 laptops.  I have contacted HP support, and we attempted to install the software to no avail.  I was passed to 2nd level and they worked trying to activate the printer as well.  I was told that the drivers are hit or miss on windows 10 systems.  I have attempted to install over and over the printer is known to the network as 192.168.1.172, but when I attempt the wireless install, it never finds the printer.

Today I ran the install exec in windows 7 compatibility mode, and it installed.

I went to the directory where the install files are located.  In my case

program files, HP, HP officejet pro 8610, Bin, DeviceSetupLauncher.exe..... Clicked with the right button, selected properties, clicked the compatibility tab, checked windows 7, applied and then double clicked the DeviceSetupLauncher exe file.  It was off to the races.

This worked for me, I hope it helps someone else.

I had the identical problem.  Solution - update driver and select HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Class Driver.  Get this through Windows update, not HP.  You may have to run Windows Update to get an updated list of drivers.  All features work - double sided printing, scanning, ink tank levels, etc.  The Deskjet 6980 driver also works but only allows single sided printing.  This driver does not support duplex printing.

REALLY?  I am not an IT person and don't even understand the instructions, let alone implement them.

Bingo! Thank you so much. This solution worked for me... kind of a fiasco though having to go through this.

After trying many other things in addition to completely uninstalling and reinstalling the complete driver package, the solution for me was to go to Printer Properties, Advanced, New Driver go through the wizard and choose HP then Officejet Pro 8600 Class.  I think the problem is the driver that HP is providing for the Officejet Pro 8610 -- it just doesn't work with Windows 10.  After changing to the Officejet Pro 8600 Class printing started working.  Didn't try scanning because user didn't need it.

Hi, thank you so much for providing this method. I too had tried so many different ways to solve this problem, in fact I have just spent a whole Sunday tearing my hair out!! I was at the point of absolute desperation when I stumbled across your post. It's 11:30pm now so at least I'll be able to go to bed happy now, thanks again!!!

Thanks!  My HP Officejet Pro 8610 software suddenly disappeared on Windows 10. I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall allways getting an error that that the printer couldn't be installed on the network.  Running the installation program in Windows 7 compatibility mode dis the trick.  Plus, I now have the full feature software working for scanning which I prefer to the HP Smart or Windows Store Scan app.
