Hp photosmart 8250

I have a HP photosmart 8250. After going unused for over a year, I put all brand new HP 02 cartridges in. Diagnostic prompt said 2 of the 6 new cartridges needed replacing since they were empty (cyan and magenta). Cleaned heads/contacts on both printer and cartridges and did a hard reset. I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do such as an override just to use black. Sucks to have spent 70+ $ for nothing. Exp. Date on package was may 2020.

@Allusernamesare

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums,

It’ll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to identify your concern and/or address your query.

To print in black and white, you need the full feature driver installed on your PC. Open Devices and printers>Printer properties> Click Advanced, click Print in Grayscale, and then select Black Ink Only. Click the Black & White button.

If you don't have full feature printer driver installed, you can still print in black and white using the print settings from most programs.

  1. From the program you are using to print, click File, and then click Print. The Print dialog box opens.

  2. Select your HP product from the list of printers.

  3. Click the button that opens the printing options (Printing Preferences). This option varies by software version and printing program, but it might be called any of the following:

    • Properties

    • Options

    • Printer Setup

    • Printer

    • Preferences

  4. From Printing Preferences, click the Color tab.

    Tip

If there is no Color tab, look for something similar. Depending on software version and printing program, the option you are looking for might be in another menu.

  5. Click Print in Grayscale. Again, this option might be called something different, like Print in Black and White.

If issue persists, I suggest calling our phone support regarding upgrade options.
1) Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Select the product type.
3) Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
