HP has sent me yet another scary security warning email for my printer. This one, the email, dated 7/16/20. It contains a link to this page

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06640149?hprpt_id=HPGL_ALERTS_2062898&jumpid=em_alerts_us-us_...

with this headline

HPSBPI03666 rev. 2 - Certain HP and Samsung-branded Print Products - Network Stack Potential Vulnerabilities

I can see my printer on the list of ones it applies to but in terms of what I'm supposed to do next . . . I've been working in software and web services for 30 years but this seems to be for some IT admin, not a general user like me. Can't tell what I'm supposed to do -- there's certainly no "download" button, and my seldom used printer is already out of warranty.

Any help will be appreciated.

My last printer, retired 2 years ago, was a Canon. With HP, it's way way more confusing and frequent update messages like this. Going back to Canon or anyone other than HP next time. This is too much for a simple personal printer.

OK, understood.

If you wish to return to HP, we are here and ready to help!

For those reading

Alerts are not meant to be confusing, of course, and are offered as a means to protect users of HP Technology and Devices.

The Alert to which this question refers includes the information needed to make an assessment for the printer.

RESOLUTION

HP has provided firmware updates for potentially impacted printers listed in the tables below. To obtain the updated firmware, go to the HP Software site and search for your printer model.

What does it mean?
The first column is the "series" level printer group of which your printer is a member

The center column is the Model / Product Number of the printers affected.

The last column is the recommended Firmware version needed to fix the potential threat.

Product Name
Model Number
Firmware Revision
HP OfficeJet 6960 All-in-One
HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All-in-One
T0G25A, T0G26A, J7K33A, T0F30A, T0F32A, T0F38A, T0F31A, J7K37A, J7K38A, J7K35A, J7K39A, T0F28A, T0F36A
2020C or later

In this case, the Firmware installation / update for the printer is located in the printer's Homepage.
Example, this printer series

and...
This printer's Firmware Update website support page:

What is the printer firmware version?
One or more of the self tests includes the printer firmware version!

For example, the firmware version is included in in the Network Configuration Page (and other locations, too)...
Section: Print a Network Configuration Page

Another source to find the firmware version:

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Tools > Printer Information

Example (from Officejet Pro 9025 Printer Information)

Firmware VersionMANHHIPP1N001.2010A.00

From the Firmware Driver update Page for the 9025:

Version:  001.2010A

Match = no need to update the firmware for this printer
