The printer's top says it's an Office Jet and the back plate has Q5607a among a few other terms, and it's an all-in-one device with fax, scan, etc. I can't find it listed on the cartridge sales sites I've looked at. If someone could provide more info on this unit and maybe the designations for compatible black and color ink cartridges, I really would appreciate it. Thanks.

The family is the Office Jet 5600 series printers, and the cartridges listed as compatible are:
HP 56 black $33 approximately at my local Walmart
HP 27 black $27 "
HP 22 tricolor $27 "
HP 58 photo
These cartridges are readily available.

Looks like it is a very old HP Officejet 4215, its specs:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-4215-all-in-one-printer-series/351105
It is not listed as current printers
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c01766411
From the following link, it uses few HP ink cartridges
Where to find inks ? Sorry I don't know, not available in my country. Before rushing out to buy inks, the main question is can you print it from your computer ?.
Regards.

No, the controls are quite different from the model 4215 you mentioned, and it's probably somewhat newer. It uses HP 56 or 57 black cartridges, etc as indicated by a cited reply by one of the HP volunteer experts.

>>> No, the controls are quite different from the model 4215 you mentioned, and it's probably somewhat newer
You did not read my previous reply which shows the many printers (including yours) on the SAME family, and clearly says they can use
- HP 56 black print cartridge (19 ml) C6656A
- HP 28 tri-color print cartridge (8 ml) C8728A
- HP 57 tri-color print cartridge (17 ml) C6657A
- HP 58 tri-color photo print cartridge (17 ml) C6658A
Now finding inks on market could be a challenge.
Regards.
