We have an HP Ink Tank Wireless 415. We are having the same error as "Protected Cartridge Installed".
Everything was fine yesterday as I was printing documents. But today, earlier this morning, as I was about to print some documents, the orange light from the indicator was blinking and according to HP Smart, the tri-colored cartridge was just fine but the black cartridge's status was "Protected Cartridge Installed". I also tried the same tips you can find online by disabling the cartridge protection under the printer settings, but the problem still persists. The cartridge we are using is the original as is the printer that we bought around a year and a half ago. I tried resetting the printer into default settings, but still nada, the "protected cartridge installed" still shows up. It's frustrating, I cannot move on from my tasks. Help pls.

Hi @jmpaz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
May I know if are you using genuine HP ink cartridges?
The "Protected Cartridge Installed" error on HP printers usually indicates that the printer has recognized the ink cartridge as being previously used in another printer or being restricted for use in your current region. This can occur even with original cartridges due to the printer's cartridge protection feature or due to a mismatch between the cartridge's regional coding and your printer's region setting. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue, beyond what you've already attempted:
Check the Cartridge's Region: HP cartridges are region-coded. Ensure that your cartridges match the region your printer is set to. If you've moved to a different region or accidentally bought a cartridge intended for another region, this might cause an error. You can contact HP support to help reset the printer's region (if necessary) and ensure it matches your cartridges.
Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve issues like this. Check if there's an available update for your HP Ink Tank Wireless 415 from the HP website or through the HP Smart app. Click Here
Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try installing another black ink cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself or the printer.
Check for Physical Damage or Contacts Issue: Ensure there's no physical damage to the cartridge or the printer where the cartridge is installed. Also, clean the cartridge contacts and the contacts inside the printer gently with a lint-free cloth and little isopropyl alcohol. Dirt or damage can sometimes cause the printer to misread the cartridge's status.
Hard Reset the Printer: Although you've reset the printer to its default settings, performing a hard reset might help. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about a minute. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear errors that a soft reset (through the printer menu) cannot. Click here
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
