HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer was offline.  I deleted the printer then added it again, setting it as the default printer.  When I tried to print a test page, it said I had a document in queue, but after waiting for 30+ seconds, it never printed.  I canceled the print.  I then tried to turn off my printer, going through all of the steps such as unplugging the power cord from the back of the printer, holding the start button down for 30 seconds, plugging the power cord back in, and it would still not shut down.  Now there is nothing on the printer control panel but the blue "hp" logo with a blue line underneath it.  When I try to shut it down, I get a very brief "shutting down" message, but it never does.

Hi @Clancey

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand the printer is stuck. I'd be happy to assist you.

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

If the issue persists, unplug the printer and hold the power button down for 10 seconds and release it.

Try to power on the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
