I have had no error message.  I used the resize quite regularly.  Suddenly the menu changed and it does not give me an option.  I can click on the "resize" menu but after that, it only shows 100%.  I have reset (unplugged, waited a bit, plugged in again.  I  reinstalled the printer and downloaded firmware.  That's all I know to do and would love some help.

You did not actually include the word "Copy" - the following should work for copy and for printing.  Scanning - maybe; it depends on what you are using to scan the image / document.

If you have not done so:

Open the tray > remove all the paper > gently flex the stack (do not "fan" paper)

If there are fewer than at least ten to fifteen sheets of paper, add more paper to your stack

Place the paper back into the tray > adjust the bars that hold the paper > close the tray door

On the printer panel, check whether the printer is asking about the paper size

Click to "modify" and (re)select your paper size > Click Done

Try your copy / print option again.

Thank you, but it did not help. In fact, my menu never showed a “modify” option.  It had arrows pointing right and you continued to the right until you found the desired option.

You are welcome.

The difference in printers is expected.  An error on my part was not reading the manual for your older device.  An oversight and one for which I have no excuse.

The way in which Copy Resize is supposed to work is explained in the User Guide > Change copy settings, starting on page 60

In the Category How to > Topic Copy

 How to Copy

Not Copy?  Which Menu?

I  have not confirmed precisely what you are trying to do and to which menu you are referring.  Although I assumed you are asking about the Copy command on the printer panel, no where in your original question does it say anything about "Copy".

Perhaps you are using software on the computer to print a document?  If yes, please provide details about what you are doing.

For example, if the menu to which you refer is the resize menu in Word that governs Inserted images, then the options are related to the vintage and type of Office software you are using, the type of image, whether the image is compressed, whether you used "copy/paste" or Insert to place the image inside the document.

Look for help

Peruse the How to and Troubleshooting categories in your printer's Website Support pages.

Check / Reset the Printer

The following document provides the various methods to "reset" the printer operations.  In the sense that you say the menu has changed from what it was previously, "reset" will likely not provide the desired results.  If the issue is something in the printer configuration having to do with the manner in which the printer is responding to commands given on the printer panel, the solutions in the document may help.

The Touchscreen Does Not Respond

Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the printer is on the network, consider using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to configure and manage your printer setup and settings.

Reminders

  1. Your printer setup will may not precisely match the example.  Try to extrapolate the necessary settings / setup for your printer and situation.
  2. In addition to the Copy settings shown below, check the Paper / Tray settings to ensure your printer is set to use the paper size you have loaded into the tray.  Although in almost every case, errors in configuration will result in a Paper Mis-match error, checking to be sure the printer paper size and media type (kind of paper) is set as expected takes only a few seconds to confirm.

For example,

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Copy Settings > Default Settings

Adjust as desired, Click Apply to save changes
