Hi @Kenneth007 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "Continuous Ink System" error on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printers, even when using genuine HP cartridges, can happen due to cartridge recognition or firmware issues. Here are some steps to help resolve it:
1. Verify Cartridges
- Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP and compatible with the OfficeJet Pro 8710 (usually HP 952 or HP 952XL for this model).
- Double-check that the cartridges are properly installed, with no protective covers or plastic tabs left on the ink nozzles.
2. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Outdated firmware may cause issues with cartridge recognition. Update your printer's firmware:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
- Check if there’s a prompt to update, then follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Reset the Printer
- Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
- Wait 60 seconds and reconnect it. This can clear temporary memory and help with recognition errors.
4. Clean Contacts on Cartridges and Printer
- Power off the printer, then gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridges and in the cartridge slot using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Reinstall the cartridges carefully.
5. Disable Cartridge Protection
- Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
- Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings or HP Cartridge Protection and turn Off any cartridge protection settings if enabled.
6. Factory Reset
- As a last resort, perform a factory reset. This can sometimes fix firmware-related errors, though it will reset your printer’s settings to default:
- On the printer’s home screen, access the Setup menu > Printer Maintenance > Restore and select Restore to Factory Defaults.
Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer series User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
