I can't print from my Mac computer (macOS Sonoma Version 14.5).  Printing requests are in waiting mode.  I have a HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M225dw - Air Print, but I can print using my cell phone.  I tried rebuting the Wifi system and it has worked in the past, but not now.  What can I do?

Hi @hmoody,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw is stuck in "waiting mode" when trying to print from your Mac running macOS Sonoma 14.5, but you can still print from your cell phone, the issue is likely related to the connection or printer setup on your Mac. Here’s how to troubleshoot:

1. Update macOS and Printer Drivers

  • Ensure your Mac is up-to-date by going to System Preferences > Software Update.
  • Check for and install any updates for the printer drivers:
    1. Visit the HP support website to download the latest drivers for your printer model.
    2. Install the drivers and restart your Mac.

2. Reset the Printing System

  • Resetting the printing system can resolve many issues:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the list of printers and select Reset printing system.
    3. Confirm the reset. This will remove all printers, so you’ll need to add your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw again by clicking the + button.

3. Re-add the Printer Using AirPrint

  • When adding the printer back, make sure you select AirPrint as the connection method:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Click the + button to add a printer.
    3. Select your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw from the list.
    4. In the "Use" dropdown, choose AirPrint instead of the HP driver.

4. Check the Print Queue

  • Ensure that there are no stuck jobs in the print queue:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
    3. If there are any print jobs stuck, try canceling them and then retry printing.

5. Verify Network Connection

  • Ensure that your printer and Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • If possible, try printing a network configuration report from the printer to verify its connection.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @hmoody,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Restart the Printer and Mac

  • Restart both your printer and Mac. Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.

7. Check Firewall and Security Settings

  • Sometimes firewall or security settings can block communication between the Mac and the printer:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
    2. Check if any security settings or firewall configurations might be blocking the printer connection.
    3. You may need to allow the printer or the necessary ports to communicate with your Mac.

8. Print from a Different User Account

  • Create a new user account on your Mac to see if the issue is user-specific:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups.
    2. Click the + button to add a new user.
    3. Log in to the new account and try printing.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue with printing from your Mac to your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw. Let me know if you need further assistance!

If the problem persists, contacting HP Phone Support might be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
