I have a HP Office jet pro 6968 Printer and I'm trying to print off the internet and i get a message that my fax is locked out and I can't print. How do I over ride that or shut off the fax function. I don't use it anyway. It said at "set up" the fax was locked out and to call the Administrator. I'm the owner and Administrator and it worked fine before but hasn't worked for a year. I didn't lock anything out....

Hi @Katmand,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue of your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 printer being locked out from printing due to the fax function, you can try the following steps:

Disable the Fax Function:

  1. Access the Printer Control Panel:
    • Ensure your printer is turned on.
    • Use the control panel on the printer to navigate settings.

  2. Locate Fax Settings:
    • Find the menu option for Fax or Fax Settings.
    • You may need to browse through the menus on the printer's touch screen interface.

  3. Disable Fax:
    • Once you locate the fax settings, look for options to disable or turn off the fax function. You may see options such as "Disable Fax" or "Turn off Fax."

Troubleshooting Software Issues

  1. Update Printer Driver:
  2. Check Default Printer:
    • On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Ensure that the HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 is set as the default printer.

  3. Remove and Reinstall Printer:
    • Remove the printer from your computer’s settings.
    • Re-add it by following the standard process for adding a printer under the Printers & scanners settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
