My Laserjet m553 is on and connected to the network. System settings can locate the printer OK. However when I try to print, the queue says that the printer is paused. Clicking the arrow at the top right makes it appear active, but then it goes back to Paused. Tried a few things; disconnecting and reconnecting the printer, turning it off and on again etc. Nothing seems to work. Is the printer faulty? Is there something I can do from its control panel? I have tried it from HP Smart and the printer shows up OK.

The MacOS 14 drivers for the Enterprise M553 are here

If your M553 is different you might try a generic driver

Unfortunately this did not work. I was able to identify and download the driver file

  • but when installing this I got a screen saying "We were not able to automatically locate any software options for this product. Please go to the HP web site and search for product solutions here www.hp.com/support.... which is where I have just downloaded the "solution".

Hi, I have tried something else... printing from my Samsung Note 20 phone! This worked immediately. Going back to my Mac, I was also able to print using HP Smart. So the printer is fine. It does look like the standard Mac driver doesn't work. I will talk to Apple!

Please let me know what you find out as that new OS has caused a lot of problem.  Any printer capable of PDF should be able to print from a Mac using generic drivers.
