HP Officejet Pro 8615 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I changed the cartridges and received a Print Error on the screen.  The machine will not print nor can I get the message to go away.  I have unplugged the unit and restarted it.  I received the same message, and I can't print.

@Kinetic204, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a print error after changing the cartridges!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I'm sorry to hear that your Officejet Pro 8615 is showing a print error after changing the cartridges. Let’s try a few steps to get this sorted out:

Power Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • Wait about 2–3 minutes to let any residual charge clear.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on (without inserting the cartridges).

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Once the printer powers up completely, reinstall the cartridges one at a time.
  • Ensure they are securely seated and that there’s no protective tape left on the contacts.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove the cartridges and gently clean the copper contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let them dry completely before reinstalling.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer to check if any firmware updates are available.

I hope this helps!

If the issue persists, answer a few questions for me:

  • When you changed the cartridges, were they genuine HP cartridges or third-party ones?
  • Is the error message specific (like "Cartridge problem" or "Printhead error") or does it just say "Print Error"?
  • Did you notice any blinking lights or unusual noises from the printer when the error appeared?

Take care, and have an amazing day!
