I can't print. It seems as if this printer will not function unless both cartridges are replaced together. I only replaced the black 74 ink cartridge in the right slot, and I left the empty tri-color 75 in the left slot. The error message that I can't get passed states that the cartidges are not compatible. And that might be because the tri-color 75 is left empty, and the black 73 is a new cartridge. Again, It seems as if this printer will not function unless both cartridges are replaced together.
I also tried to take the empty tri-color 75 out, and leave only the new black 73 in it's right slot. The error message changes and states that the catridges are missing or not detected. Please explain. Should I just wait until my finances are up to par and buy a tri-clor 75 ink cartridge. I thought that the printer would work continously as long as there where ink toner in at least one or the other ink cartridge.

Thank you for joining the HP Support Community
HP Photosmart C4435 All-in-One Printer is designed in such a way that for the best quality it uses both cartridges in the printer.
Both the cartridge should have in to resume printing.
I suggest you replace the try color cartridge and try printing.
