I keep getting error messages ox6100004a + 0x6100004b.  I do not have any paper jams..  When I try to reset the printer I am told the printer did not shut down properly.

Hi @SteveO516

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details—those error codes can be frustrating, especially when everything looks fine externally. Let's walk through a clean, sensory-rich reset and inspection process to help your HP LaserJet M1132 MFP recover smoothly.

These errors often stem from internal misalignment, debris, or a failed shutdown sequence. Even without visible paper jams, the printer may be sensing obstruction or mechanical resistance.

1. Perform a Full Power Reset

This helps clear internal memory and reset the carriage mechanism.

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds—let the machine fully discharge.
  • While waiting, gently open the cartridge access door and inspect the carriage area:
    • Slide the carriage left and right gently if it’s movable.
    • Remove any loose paper, dust, or ink debris.
  • Close the door, reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on and listen for smooth startup sounds.

2. Check Cartridge Seating and Movement

Improperly seated cartridges or blocked carriage rails can trigger these errors.

  • Open the cartridge door.
  • Remove both cartridges carefully.
  • Inspect for ink buildup or torn labels.
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly until they click into place.
  • Close the door and restart the printer.

3. Clear the Print Queue and Restart Spooler

Old jobs or spooler glitches can cause repeated failures.

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click → Stop.
  • Open C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside.
  • Go back to services.msc, right-click Print SpoolerStart.

4. Reinstall the Driver (Avoid Smart Install)

Smart Install can interfere with proper driver setup. Use the full software package instead.

  • Disconnect the USB cable.
  • Visit the official HP driver page:
HP LaserJet M1132 Driver for Windows
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Driver.
  • Run the installer as administrator.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

5. Disable Smart Install on the Printer

If Smart Install is active, it may block proper driver communication.

  • On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button (wrench icon).
  • Navigate to Service > Smart Install.
  • Set it to Off.

6. Final Test

  • Open Notepad, type a few words, and print.
  • Confirm that the printer responds without repeating old jobs or showing errors.

If the issue persists after this full reset and reinstall, I can help you explore firmware updates or deeper diagnostics. Just let me know how the printer responds after these steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
