I was forced to replace all 4 cartridges, even though I only had 1 cartridge out of ink, the yellow one. The others still had ink in them. Only the yellow showed it needed to be replace. I replaced the yellow one, and it showed full. Then HP printer said I was now out of Cyan. I replaced that. Then it said the other 2 were empty, so I had to replace them, or I could not print. I have never had this happen before. I have always been able to replace them one by one. I see another person had the same problem. I rarely print in color, but understood the smaller cartridge of yellow could need to be replaced. But to have all 4 need it, even when prior to replacing the yellow one, the printer showed ink in the other 3? Is there a problem with the program? It appeared I had to throw away cartridges with ink in them, still. Gets very expensive over time.

@cgrench, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Is the printer enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program?
Meanwhile, Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Now, try monitoring the printer for a few days
Keep me posted for further assistance.
