I have three of the same HP Smart Tank 7305 with the same pproblem. After the printers were in sleep mode and i press the copy button, all lights start to blink. When i run hp-info i get unknown error. The printer then doesn't work anymore, it just continuously blinks and nothing works anymore until i plug the cord and restart it. Sometimes the same error happens without pressing the copy button. This is a problem because I automated a bunch of prints that need to work over the weekend.
The firmware and drivers are up to date.
Turning off doesn't work, i have to unplug it.
I don't think restoring to factory defaul will help, because this problem happens with all HP Smart Tank 7300 printers I have. One is brand new, just a month or two old.
I hope this is a known problem, it is easy to replicate, just wait for the printer to enter sleep mode, wake it up, then press the copy button.
Thanks for the help.

Hi @takiden,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a software or firmware issue affecting multiple HP Smart Tank 7300 series printers. Given that you've already ensured the firmware and drivers are up to date and the issue happens consistently, here are a few things you could try.
- Reset Printer Settings: Although you mentioned that factory resetting may not help, it's still worth trying on one printer to see if it resolves the issue. Sometimes settings can become corrupted over time, and a fresh reset may clear up the problem.
- Disable Sleep Mode: If sleep mode is causing the issue, try disabling it temporarily to see if that prevents the error from happening. You can usually adjust sleep settings in the printer's control panel or through the printer's web interface. This may help as a temporary workaround while you continue to troubleshoot.
- Update or Reinstall HP Smart Software: Even though your firmware and drivers are up to date, sometimes reinstalling the HP Smart software or utility can resolve hidden issues. You can also check for any additional updates to the HP software that may not have been applied yet.
- Check for Printer-Specific Bugs: Since the problem happens on all your printers, it may be a known issue. I recommend checking HP's support website for any updates or advisories related to the Smart Tank 7300 series.
- Alternative Workflow: As a temporary solution, you could automate the printing task without using the copy button. If the printer only malfunctions after pressing the copy button, you might consider bypassing this function and managing the print job through other means (like using the direct print feature or automating it via your PC).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
