I have a HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw that hasn't been working for a few months now due to "expired certificate" error message. I can't figure out what that is or how to fix it. I have gone into various menu settings and haven't found anything that mentions certificates like some forums mention. The printer is in perfectly working order except for this. Please help!

Let me know what you find out.

Hello, I opened the video but I don't see any of the things they talk about, starting with "Printer Settings" within the HP App which is nowhere to be found.  Printer Information and Network Information are the closest tabs I can see but they just display some info, nothing about settings, certificates, etc.

I don't have Windows computers in the house, how am I supposed to generate it from a Windows PC if I don't have such a thing? Is the fix only strictly with a PC?

I do not have any Mac products so have not run in this problem and suspect the apple community might provide better support.

Asking "ChatGPT" the following might be helpful

If your HP printer isn't working with macOS due to an expired certificate, it's likely caused by outdated or revoked HP printer software or drivers that macOS now treats as untrusted. This has been a known issue with some HP printers in the past.

Here’s how you can resolve the problem:

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Remove Existing HP Printer Drivers

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

  • Select your HP printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.

  • Then open Finder > Go > Go to Folder, and enter:

    /Library/Printers/hp
  • Delete the entire hp folder.

Also check:

/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/

Delete any HP files in there.

2. Reset Printing System (Optional but Recommended)

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list area and choose Reset printing system... (this removes all printers and queues).

  • Reboot your Mac.

3. Download Latest HP Drivers

  • Visit the official HP site: https://support.hp.com

  • Search for your exact printer model (e.g., HP Photosmart C4580).

  • Download and install the latest macOS-compatible drivers or use HP Easy Start, if available.

4. Add Printer Again

  • Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

  • Click the plus (+) to add a printer.

  • Select your printer and wait for macOS to auto-detect the correct driver.

Alternative: Use AirPrint

If HP drivers still cause issues, and your printer supports AirPrint, you can:

  • Remove the existing printer.

  • Re-add it but choose "Use: AirPrint" from the dropdown during printer setup.

Notes:

  • macOS Big Sur and newer versions verify printer driver certificates, so HP's revoked certificates can cause drivers to fail.

  • HP has reissued many updated drivers, so using their latest installer should work.

Would you like help finding the correct driver page for your printer model?

Actually I was able to fix it by pasting the IP Address to my browser... for some reason I got confused with all the instructions and thought I needed a window computer for that too.

It's all working now!

exactly what helped you (if anything) as it would be useful for other Mac users to know..
