I re-installed my HP Envy 5530 in hopes of being able to scan. Nothing I try works. I don't know if I should try to install a Scanner, but I don't think so, because at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1716406-1413451-16, I am told, "By installing HP Smart, you also install all drivers necessary to print and scan." So why can't I scan?
Every program I run has a Scan button. Not long after scanning has begun, I get an error (see below) that ends scanning immediately.
I have done the following:
Run Windows Fax and Scan > New scan > (choose options) > Click Scan :
ERROR--"A problem prevented the document from being scanned."
"A problem". Yes. I imagine.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.7.4, selected my Envy printer, got to Step 2 (Finding and fixing problems) and got an
ERROR: "Device manager is reporting an error that requires restart."
"An error". Thanks for confirming the info you withheld previously. I Restarted and re-ran HP P&S Doctor 5.7.4. Message: "Welcome back. Printer selected HP Envy 5530 Class Driver." Good. Then
ERROR: "Device manager error. This tool is unable to solve this problem after restart. Go to HP Customer Care".
The instructions for HP Smart say I can "Scan documents" from my printer. (That was true a week ago, but not today.)
It says to click the Scan tile in HP Smart home screen to begin the scan process, then in the Scan window click Scanner.
Then I click Scan and get ERROR: Scanner in use. Try later.
