HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It prints a PDF file just fine from the HP Smart app. It won't print  a file of any kind from any other app.

When you try to print from any other application the printer is activated and a page runs through the printer but nothing prints on the paper. This is consistent. I uninstalled the HP Smart ran HP Scan Doctor and reset the printer to factory settings. I reconnected the printer to the network and reinstalled from Microsoft store the HP Smart app. I have also tried installing the HP Smart app from HP's website with no apparent change in the result. That did nothing either way. I even ran the windows troubleshooter for printers, and it set the printer as the default and found no other problems and that changed nothing. Is there anything from the Windows 10 perspective that I can do? Everything with the printer it's self checks out fine. The print spooler is working the printer is recognized and online. Is there some sort of reset for windows or word that can be ran? Everything I have done looks good but it won't print anything from any app but HP Smart. I have new full ink cartridges and the print quality is fine from the HP Smart app it literally doesn't put a drop of ink on the paper when printing from Word. Is there some sort of diagnostics that I can run. It's not a print quality issue it's not putting ink on the paper as it runs through the printer. I both Aligned and Cleaned the Print heads with no change.  As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @MikeFinn111,

Please find the next steps below.

Try a Different Application:

  • If you haven’t already, try printing from a different application (e.g., Notepad, WordPad) to see if the issue persists.

Create a New User Profile:

  • Sometimes user profile issues can cause problems. Create a new user profile in Windows and try printing from that profile.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Try connecting the printer via USB temporarily to see if it prints correctly, which can help determine if the issue is network-related.

Advanced Troubleshooting

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Although you mentioned using it before, running it again after making other changes might catch something previously missed.
  • Download it from the HP website and follow the on-screen instructions.

Registry Edit (Caution):

  • As a last resort, you can check the registry for printer entries that might be causing issues. Be very careful when editing the registry.
  • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers.
  • Look for any entries related to your printer and ensure there are no duplicates or erroneous entries.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to contact HP Phone Support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
