HP ENVY 6020e All-in-One Printer

Hello, can someone please help? This printer is always offline, there is no display, and it's hard to read what is wrong. I cannot print, and it's so frustrating. I just put in the new cartridges that were sent to me, and now it's flashing 0 E, and I don't understand what's wrong.

Please Help!

I have exactly the same problem - what started as intermittent printing has now become non-existent printing.  This printer is not obselete yet but has been very inconsistent with printing.  I'm so frustrated I'm looking for a new printer - and it won't be a HP one.

Hi @Sherella,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 6020e. Let's address the issues and get your printer back to working condition.

1. Understanding the Flashing "0 E" Error

The "0 E" error typically indicates an issue with the ink cartridges or a general printer error. Here's what you can do:

Check the Ink Cartridges:

  • Remove both cartridges from the printer.
  • Inspect for any protective tape that may still be on the cartridge contacts. If present, remove it carefully.
  • Wipe the copper contacts on the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly, ensuring they click into place.

Check for Jammed Paper or Obstructions:
Open the printer and check for any paper jams, debris, or obstructions. Ensure the paper path is clear.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.

2. Fixing the "Printer Always Offline" Issue

Here’s how you can resolve the offline issue:

  • Restart Your Devices:
Restart your computer, router, and printer.
  • Reconnect the Printer to WiFi:
    • If the WiFi light on your printer is blinking, it means the connection is lost. Use the WiFi Setup Mode to reconnect:
      1. Press and hold the WiFi button (on the back of the printer) until the WiFi light blinks blue.
      2. Open the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.
      3. Follow the instructions to reconnect the printer to your network.
  • Set the Printer as Default:
    • On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your printer and click Set as Default.
  • Disable "Use Printer Offline" Mode:
    • Right-click on your printer in the Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Ensure the Use Printer Offline option is unchecked.

3. General Troubleshooting for Printing Issues

  • Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
Use the HP Smart app to check for and install the latest firmware updates.
  • Reinstall Printer Software:
If problems persist, uninstall and reinstall the printer software using the HP Smart app.

Hi, I have the same problem as you. I think it's caused by a firmware update that blocks non-original cartridges.
HP really pissed me off by blocking these cartridges because their own aren't any better than the refilled ones. They’re just squeezing money out of people.
I’ll never buy an HP product again—I’m going to sell this printer and get one from a different company.

Hi @Felsuma,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially when you just want to print without issues. Printers should work seamlessly, and it can be upsetting when unexpected problems arise.

To clarify, HP does not block non-HP cartridges. However, HP printers come with a security feature called Dynamic Security, which is designed to protect the printer from counterfeit or modified ink cartridges that could potentially damage the printhead or affect performance. This feature ensures that the printer operates at its best while maintaining print quality and longevity.

That said, I completely understand why this might feel inconvenient. It’s never a great experience to run into roadblocks when all you want is a smooth printing process.

I’d love to help you find a solution so you can get back to printing without stress. Let’s troubleshoot together. Are you seeing an error message, or is the printer simply not recognizing the cartridge? Let me know, and we’ll get this sorted out! 😊
