HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 that is displaying "printer failure problem with printer or ink system". I have tried resetting by powering down and unplugging. Removed ink cartridges. Removed print head and found a lot of ink around print head. I have tried print doctor and it recommended uninstalling drivers and reinstalling which I did. It show printer is offline yet my computer and software identify the printer. I am willing to put in a new print head but am concerned that my printer is too old over 10 years old. I have read that there are compatibility issues with the new print heads.  Just an frustrated because I am not making head way. Wondering if I now own a brick. Really loved the printer when it was working.   Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @John_K474 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating to encounter issues with your printer, but there are a few additional steps you can try before giving up on your HP Officejet Pro 8600. Here are few suggestions:

Clean the Printhead:

  • Since you've already removed the printhead and noticed ink around it, try cleaning the printhead thoroughly. Use distilled water and a lint-free cloth to gently wipe away any excess ink.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Make sure your printer has the latest firmware updates installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Check for your printer model and follow the instructions for updating the firmware.

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Windows 11 computer. Visit the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your printer, and reinstall them.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date. Run Windows Update to make sure you have the latest updates installed.

Replace Printhead:

  • If cleaning the printhead doesn't resolve the issue, and you're willing to invest in a new printhead, make sure to get one specifically designed for your HP Officejet Pro 8600 model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
