how can I print wirelessly ,without being on line, or not using my hotspot. the printer packaging says I can do this., but I cannot find info on how to do this. also, occasionally the printer will cover the paper with solid black ink, this uses a huge amt. of ink from the cartridge - a big waste of money. thank you so much for any and all input.

Hi,
You may print using a USB cable using HP Print for Chrome, you may also try printing via Wi-Fi Direct (which the printer support), but I doubt it will work from a Chromebook as the Chromebook itself is a cloud based system and require internet conenction:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04683559
To connect the printer connect a USB cable to print,
To try printing with no router touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon on the printer to display the Wi-Fi Direct name and password and ensure the feature is enabled.
From your Chromebook tap the WiFi icon and connect to the WiFi Direct network, then try printing and see if you may able to.
If you are not able to print a USB cable or a router is required, the printer supports Wi-Fi Direct as the pakaging says, but Chrome OS may not support a such...

Hello wln,
What Schlomil is saying - two different things.
First attempt to set up the Wi-Fi Direct option; therefore it would be a wireless connection between the chromebook and the printer . Thereby, with such a wireless printer to Chromebook connection, it would seem that the Chromebook has it's own separate and unrelated wireless connection.
If that is not an option then try using a USB cable; therefore you would be wired to the printer. Also, get back here if the wi-fi seems to be problematic in the setup, possibly caused by unrelated glitches. For example, on occasion the printer and computer do not connect, which can be corrected.
Also, both printer and Chromebook have SD slots, whether they match (micro SD vs. standard) needs to be determined.
I am not an HP employee; just searching for answers and offering suggestions when I can for queries on the forum. Good luck.
