I have Stuck in Calibration Mode. Says Printer Failure , Problem with printer or Ink System, and says turn off/on,  but I cant shut in off/on because it is stuck in calibration mode.  I was doin g a Partial reset to try and clear defective cartridge that started all of a sudden after being away from the 8610 for two months.  The 8610 has worked flawlessly with original HP and aftermarket ink for 8 years or more.

Please advise because now its stuck in calibration and says do not turn off or disconnect power?

Thank you

@JA1008, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP printer

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you are encountering a calibration issue with your HP printer, specifically the HP OfficeJet 8610. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Perform a Full Reset:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still turned on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Ensure all cartridges are properly seated and remove any defective cartridges if possible.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can download the latest firmware from the HP support website.

Remove and Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

  • Sometimes simply removing the ink cartridges and reinstalling them can help restore operation.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Inspect the printer's internal components for any visible blockages or hardware issues.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank yo Zoey7886 for your reply.  I have done all the steps you recommended however the situation remains:

The 8610 is Stuck in Calibration Mode.

I have done a Partial Re-set using the hidden service menu and loaded the language, country, installed cartages and set up the network.  The printer then went into the "Initialization and Calibration "  mode.  It is stuck in that mode and if you try to turn it off and on it says "Do Not Turn Printer off or Disconnect Power During This Process".  You cannot turn the printer off with the power button this message just repeats.  I had it like this for days. If I do unplug and reconnect to power the same message comes back. This 8610 worked for 8 years and just did this two weeks ago!

NOTE:  I The 8610 has worked flawlessly with original HP and aftermarket ink for 8 years or more.

@JA1008, We need to perform a semi-full reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

Hello Max3Aj,

Thanks for the extra steps.

I will be away from the HP8610 printer for about 6-8 weeks and will avert back to you when I return to the printer.

In the mean time here is some feedback regarding the recommendations that I have already tried and also some questions.

Hello again Max3Aj,

I also ran across the article on the HP site regarding the 8610 firmware.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_11469335-11469393-16

HP Inkjet printers - Dynamic Security feature affecting cartridges using non-HP security chip

This document is for HP Officejet 6950, Officejet Pro 6230, 6810, 6820, 6830, 6970, 7740, 8210, 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, 8660, 8700, X451dn/dw, X476dn/dw, X551dw, X576dw, Page Wide 300, 400, and 500 printers. If you see a Cartridge Problem error message when you are using non-HP cartridges, it is possible that a dynamic security feature has caused the printer to reject the non-HP cartridge. It is also possible that the cartridge has simply failed for other reasons.

Thank you.
