I have this message on my HP officejet 8610 pro screen: There is a problem with printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists contact HP. All cartridge's contain ink and this is the first time I get problem like this.

Hi @Hytham22,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the message "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" on your HP Officejet 8610 Pro typically indicates an issue with the printer's ink cartridges or the ink system itself. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Check and Reinstall Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove each ink cartridge and inspect them for any damage or ink buildup.
  • Reinstall the cartridges, making sure they are securely in place.

3. Clean the Ink Cartridges and Contacts

  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the ink cartridges and the corresponding contacts in the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridges.

4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues with the printer and ink system.
  • You can do this by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest firmware for your printer model.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.

6. Check for Blockages

  • Make sure there are no blockages or obstructions in the printhead area or the ink cartridge holder.

Additional Tips

  • Use genuine HP ink cartridges as non-genuine cartridges can sometimes cause issues.
  • Make sure the printer is placed in a clean, dust-free environment.

Hello @Gaya1239. I tried all methods you mentioned but I still have the same problem. Something I have to mention here: The problem appeared after I replaced the yellow catridge with new one because it was empty. Now when I remove the yellow catridge and close the printer doors, the message disappears and I find the printer asks me to install yellow catridge instead, I don't know if the problem is in my printer or with the new yellow catridge. It is original catridge and honestly I cannot afford to by new catridge to test if the cuurent one is damaged.
