Hi @Rhea6

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've just replaced the ink cartridge in your HP Envy 5000 series printer and you're encountering issues with sporadic printing or ink depletion errors, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new ink cartridge is correctly installed. Make sure you removed any protective tape or packaging from the cartridge and that it's securely snapped into place.
  • Printer Restart: Sometimes, a simple printer restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and the new cartridge. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Printer Software Update: Ensure that your printer's software and drivers are up to date. You can usually find the latest software and drivers on the HP support website. Download and install any available updates.
  • Cartridge Compatibility: Confirm that you're using the correct and compatible ink cartridge for your printer model. Check the cartridge number and compare it to the one specified for your printer in the user manual or on the HP website.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Ink cartridge contacts can sometimes get dirty, leading to communication issues. Turn off the printer, remove the ink cartridge, and gently clean the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab.
  • Reset the Printer: Resetting the printer to its default settings can sometimes resolve software-related issues. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Some printers may require firmware updates to address cartridge recognition issues. Visit the HP website and check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model.
  • Use Genuine HP Cartridges: While compatible or remanufactured cartridges can be more affordable, they may not always work as reliably as genuine HP cartridges. Using genuine HP ink cartridges can help avoid compatibility issues.

Remember that ink levels can also be estimated by the printer software, and sometimes these estimates are not entirely accurate. If the ink cartridge is new, it should have sufficient ink to print.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
