Hi @Billmck42444,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Confirm Wi-Fi Direct is Enabled:
- Ensure that the Wi-Fi Direct feature is turned on and ready to receive print jobs.
- Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon to access the Wi-Fi Direct menu and verify its status.
- Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press the Information button to print an Information Report containing Wi-Fi Direct status.
Restart Devices:
- Turn off your printer and then turn it back on.
- Restart your computer or mobile device to clear any potential errors.
Move Devices Closer:
- Ensure your printer and computer or mobile device are close to each other to improve signal strength and reduce connectivity issues.
Check Wi-Fi Direct Confirmation/Password:
- On the printer control panel, look for any prompts requesting Wi-Fi Direct confirmation or password input.
Review and Change Wi-Fi Direct Settings:
- Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address (usually 192.168.223.1) into a web browser.
- From the EWS home page, click the Network or Networking tab, and then click Wi-Fi Direct Status.
- Modify the generic settings such as "Wi-Fi Direct Name", "Connection Method" (preferably select Manual for higher security), and "Wi-Fi Direct Password".

Additional Tips
Restore Wi-Fi Settings:
- If the problem persists, restoring network settings may help. On printers with touchscreen control panels, navigate to Wireless or Setup menu, select Network Setup, and choose Restore Network Settings. Printers without touchscreen control panels can follow the specific button combinations listed in the printer manual.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware updates for your printer model.
I hope this helps.
