I keep getting the message "Printer validation failed" when I try to print something from my laptop. What can I do to be able to print?

Hi @Jennifer0108,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're seeing the "Printer validation failed" error when trying to print from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. It usually points to a communication or driver issue between your laptop and the printer. Please try these steps to fix the issue:

1. Restart Everything

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
  • Restart your laptop.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Reconnect the Printer

If you're using Wi-Fi:

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect to your network.
  • On your laptop, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, remove the printer, and re-add it.

If you're using USB, try a different port or cable.

3. Run the HP Smart App

HP provides a free tool to fix common printing issues: 👉 HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support

  • Run the tool and follow the prompts to detect and fix the validation error.

4. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  2. Right-click your printer > Remove device
  3. Download the latest full driver from HP: 👉 HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

Install the full software package, not just the basic driver.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  • Restart your laptop after updating.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
