@DJ-Nattee, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're seeing an error on your HP DeskJet 2700 even after replacing the black ink cartridge, and now it's showing that the color cartridge is empty, even though you only want to print in black. Let's work through this together.
Check Cartridge Compatibility and Installation
- Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges compatible with the DeskJet 2700 series.
- Remove both cartridges and gently clean the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinstall the cartridges firmly and close the access door.
Bypass the Color Cartridge Requirement
Even if you're printing in black only, HP printers often require both cartridges to be functional. If the color cartridge is empty or faulty, it can trigger an error.
You can try enabling "Print in Backup Mode":
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click your printer > Printing Preferences
- Under the Color tab, select "Print in Grayscale" > "Black Ink Only"
- Click Apply and OK
Note: This may only work if the color cartridge is installed, even if it's low on ink.
Reset the Printer
Sometimes a simple reset can clear cartridge errors:
- Turn the printer on
- Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer
- Wait for 60 seconds
- Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on
Update Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues. Check for updates: Official HP® Support
