Hi @JLVanaman

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The "88 error code" with all lights flashing on your HP Smart Tank 6001 typically indicates a hardware or system issue.

Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this:

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2–3 minutes to allow the printer to reset.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the error clears.

Step 2: Check for Obstructions

  1. Open the printer’s access doors and inspect for any paper jams, debris, or obstructions.
  2. Remove any visible blockages carefully.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Step 4: Inspect the Printheads

  1. Open the printhead access area and check if the printheads are properly seated.
  2. If they appear loose, remove and reinstall them securely.

Step 5: Update Firmware

  1. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
  2. Download and install the latest firmware updates for your printer.
