I acquired a used HP Smart Tank 7602r printer. I've been using it for a couple of months and it has worked fine. However, I eventually got a print head error. Replacing the print heads didn't work. In looking at the lines, I could see that there was air in a couple of the lines. I believe this occurred because the printer wasn't correctly shipped.

In an case, in order to eliminate the air, I did a COLD RESET. This seems to have eliminated the air in the lines. However, I now need to re-register the printer. But, since the printer was previously registered, it won't allow me to register it without the original credentials. I've contacted the seller, and he couldn't help.

Can HP unregister the printer to allow me to register it?

Hi @TomFehr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You’ve done a lot already, fixing the air in the ink lines and replacing the printheads was smart troubleshooting. Now the challenge is re-registering the HP Smart Tank 7602r after a cold reset when the printer is still linked to the previous owner’s account.

Troubleshooting & Next Steps

1. Gather Required Information

Before contacting HP, make sure you have:

  • Printer serial number (found on the back or inside the ink access door).
  • Printer model (HP Smart Tank 7602r).
  • Your HP account email.
  • Proof of purchase (if available).

2. Enable Web Services

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Web Services.
    • If disabled, turn it ON.
  • If you see an error, restore network defaults:
    • Set up> Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults, then reconnect Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
