Hi @Jo03-_

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are encountering an error message stating that the cartridge cannot be used until the printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink, and you are not the original owner, there are a few steps you can take to address the issue:

Reset the Printer: Try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This may clear any settings or restrictions that are causing the error message to appear. Consult the printer's user manual or HP's support documentation for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues or bugs that may be causing the error message to appear. Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer series

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your printer model. Using incompatible cartridges can sometimes trigger error messages or warnings.

Check for Ink Cartridge Authentication Settings: Some HP printers have settings that require authentication of ink cartridges. If this setting is enabled, it may be causing the error message to appear. Check the printer's settings menu for any options related to ink cartridge authentication and disable them if necessary.

Consider Enrolling in HP Instant Ink: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to consider enrolling the printer in HP Instant Ink to use the cartridges. This service provides ink cartridges delivered to your door when your printer detects that it's running low on ink. You can choose a plan based on your printing needs.
