HP DeskJet 2823e All-in-One Printer

I received 2 cartridges with my new HP printer as part of the free cartridge deal (post purchase), but it was self generated and said I had printed 79 pages already or something like that (which I absolutely had not, I mainly scan things in), and the cartridges arrived.  The existing ones were still working, so I unsubscribed to this program as its clearly skewed and I dont want to subscribe to something that I have to deal with to get right. Ill buy my own cartridges when I need them.   So aside from this printer having all sorts of issues feeding paper (which my last Canon did constantly and ended up smashed on my rockery in my front yard)...... this one is destined for the same place.  I'm tired of buying these printers and they dont work. This one wont print unless I hard cord it to the laptop, which kind of defeats the purpose, but am grateful for it working, until it wasnt.  I have had it like 4 weeks and I already have a headache.  So it wont print. Says error E0,  I was told it needed new cartridges and stopped printing so I changed them and now the on/off button is perpetually flashing and the error msg is relative to these new cartridges which are HP genuine cartridges that HP sent me.   Im just about done and have 2 printers to return to Officeworks and want my **bleep** money back.   How hard is it to get a printer that just does what it was bought for and lasts 10 years like the last HP I had (which I ditched for a newer wifi printer that ended up on the rockery - regrets, I have a few).  Chinese rubbish.  Anyway someone please help me I urgently need this  to print off some important documents and Ive had access to it for a grand total of  like 2 weeks.

Oh and when I try to copy something, it prints blank pages....thats before it just stopped working of course.  Over it.

@Queeniekins, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm really sorry you're having such a frustrating experience . Let's cut through the noise and try to get your HP DeskJet 2823e back up and working right now, especially since you urgently need to print documents.

Here's a step-by-step fix approach for your issue:

Decode the E0 Error

On the HP DeskJet 2823e, an E0 error + blinking Power button typically indicates cartridge-related issues.

>Since you unsubscribed from Instant Ink, and installed Instant Ink cartridges, your printer now refuses to use them
>Instant Ink cartridges are not usable once you cancel the subscription, Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.

Your Immediate Solution

You need to remove the Instant Ink cartridges and install standard retail HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges (not ones shipped via the Instant Ink program). Here's what to do:

  • Turn off the printer
  • Remove the Instant Ink cartridges (they'll say "Instant Ink" or have a blue cap).
  • Install standard HP 67 black and tri-color ink (retail versions).
  • Turn the printer back on.

If you don’t have standard cartridges yet, you’ll need to buy a new pair (unfortunately, yes — even if your current ones are full).

Optional Tip: If unsure what type of cartridge you have

Look for:

Instant Ink cartridges say “Instant Ink” clearly on their label or have a blue cap.

Retail cartridges just say HP 67 or 67XL, usually with black cap and standard HP branding.

Fix Copying Blank Pages

Once the cartridge issue is sorted, if your printer still copies blank pages:

  • Make sure you are scanning/copying face down on the bottom-right corner of the glass (not in the ADF).
  • Try a firmware update via the HP Smart app.
  • If printing is fine but copying still gives blank pages, it could indicate a scanner bulb failure (hardware defect).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am NOT removing these cartridges.  They are part of the deal of my purchase.   HP needs to stop trying to trap people into deals based on copy numbers that are completely inaccurate.  Its written on the box.  I am entitled to it.  And as a result, have missed out on 2 of the 3 months and still cant bloody print.  You  need to fix this and make it right.
