I have what looks like a common problem. My HP 63 cartridge was refilled at Costco like at other times, but I get an error message now telling me to reload the cartridge, that the cartridge was loaded improperly. I have reloaded it a few times and cleaned it, but it still doesn't work. I understand there's a workaround to this problem. Can someone let me know what I need to do?

@H20color, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Update the printer firmware-
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third-party/refilled ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which are refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it is not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
Also, you can try the steps from the document HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

I tried to update the firmware for my Officejet 3830, There is an firmware update available, but when I select and try to download the update, I get a request to turn off the printer and then turning it back on. After several attempts, I had no luck. I also tried to reset the printer, but disconnecting both ends of the power cord, including the power source and to the printer itself. I did this for more than 60 seconds. Still no luck. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the firmware update done? Ultimately, I'm trying to get my Costco refilled HP 63 cartridge working again. There appears to be a communication problem with the cartridge. Thanks for your help. It is very much appreciated!
