HP Office Jet 6960

I refilled my HP ink cartridges then installed them and ran two cleanings. There is a small puddle of ink under the ink bay. Are the cartridges leaking or is this from the two cleanings?

Hi!  @Coni56,

Replace low empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.

HP does not recommend using refilled ink cartridges, I have checked few records found few articles about why the refilled ink cartridges don't work.

QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.

Clean the ink cartridge and printhead contacts manually.

Remove the ink cartridges to clean the ink cartridge and printhead contacts and then reinstall the ink cartridges into the printer.

   CAUTION:

Clean the ink cartridges one at a time. Do not leave an ink cartridge outside of the printer for more than 30 minutes. Also, never turn off the printer when an ink cartridge is removed from its slot. Leaving ink cartridge slots empty might cause damage to the ink cartridge ink system.

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • A clean, lint-free cloth

    • A clean, dry cotton swab

    • Distilled or bottled water

         CAUTION:

Do not use tap water, platen cleaners, or alcohol because they might contain contaminants that can damage the contacts.

  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.

The carriage moves to the left side of the printer.

    NOTE:

If the scanner lid is open, the ink cartridge access door does not open.

  3. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

  4. Press the tab inward on the front of the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull up on the ink cartridge to remove it from the slot.

  5. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water.

  6. Place the cartridge to the side, with the contacts facing upwards.

  7. Moisten the cotton swab, and then wipe the contacts inside the printhead.

  8. Carefully reinsert the ink cartridge into its slot, and then press down on the ink cartridge until it clicks into place.

    NOTE:

Make sure you insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same colored letter as the color you are installing.

  9. Repeat these steps for other ink cartridges, if necessary.

  10. Close the ink cartridge access door.
