HP OfficeJet 8702 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am now on my 3rd 8702 All in one printer. All 3 died when I recieved a print head error. The same error infact. I removed the print head, cleaned it, clicked it in and carefully reinstalled the software.

Each time I still got the same exact error message. In many products the manufacturer put a counter(Usually a chip) in the printer so that it will fail after x number of prints, even when the printer is in perfect working order. This allows the manufactor to sell the consumer another printer to increase his sale figures.

If you bought a car and at 30,000 miles it would not run, even though the engine and everything is still in good shape that would be similar. In addition labor to repair the printer or the car was unavailable unless you paid a number of dollars that would make it a better decision to just buy a new one.

I have trown away two 8702 printers and got qa new one because of this. I have now had my 3rd one do exactly the same thing. It was like to others a great working workhourse of a printer.

Has any one else had any experience with this on this printer or other hp printers?

Hi @deerelkbear,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are getting an error message  on your HP Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges?
  • Does the copy print out the same way?
  • Was there any recent update on the printer prior to the issue?
  • Was there any paper jam or carriage jam issue on the printer recently?

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
