I bought my printer today and when through the registration for instant ink. Just the free account for the moment, as I don't know how much I am going to print a month. I've had a confirmation email saying I'm enrolled.

However just by chance I noticed later on my printer a message saying that the Instant Ink service had been disabled and that I was now on a buy the cartridges plan (or words to that effect).

How do I check what is actually happening?

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there seems to be an issue with the enrollment.

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Have you checked you HP Instant Ink account page? Your Instant Ink account page will have notifications if there are any issues with the account or recent cartridge shipment, it will even provide solutions on how to fix the issue. You may log in to your HP Instant Ink account page from here

If your printer is online and enrolled on your Instant Ink account page, let´s try these steps -

1) Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
2) Wait for 60 seconds.
3) Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
4) Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
5) Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Also, try updating the printer´s firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps!

Let me know how that goes.

Thank you for the information. I am still using the cartridges that came with the printer when first bought. Looking at my account it looks like a set of cartgridges is in the process of shipping.

However when I look in my instant ink account  I see that the cartridges that came with the printer have not registered any use,  despite the fact that I have printed about 5 pages so far. is that because they are not considered as Instant Ink Cartridges?
