Hi @nomar3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are facing connectivity issues. I’d like to help!
Make sure, your printer and your device are on the same network as 2.4GHZ only.
What device are you using the printer with a Windows computer, Mac, Android, or iPhone?
It seems like your HP OfficeJet 6960 is having trouble with its network settings after switching from wireless to wired. Here’s how you can troubleshoot this issue:
1. Check the Wired Connection
- Ensure the Ethernet Cable is Properly Connected: Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the printer and the router or switch.
- Try a Different Port: Connect the Ethernet cable to a different port on your router or switch to rule out a port issue.
2. Verify Network Settings
- Access the Printer’s Network Settings:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > View Wireless Summary or Network Configuration Page.
- Check the IP address and network settings to ensure they are correctly configured.
3. Update Printer’s IP Address
- Manually Configure IP Address:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > Wired Network Setup.
- Choose Manual IP and enter a static IP address that is within your network range. Make sure this IP address does not conflict with other devices on the network.
4. Restart Devices
- Restart Printer and Router:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Do the same with your router.
- Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug them back in and power them on.
5. Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Reinstall Printer Software:
- Go to the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet 6960, and reinstall them.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the printer for a wired connection.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @nomar3,
Please find the remaining steps below.
6. Check for Firmware Updates
- Update Printer Firmware:
- Visit the HP support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Install any available updates to ensure compatibility.
7. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Again:
- Sometimes running the tool a second time or restarting your computer can help resolve lingering issues.
8. Reset Network Settings
- Reset Printer Network Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults. This will reset the network settings to factory defaults.
- After resetting, reconfigure the wired network settings.
If you have tried all these steps and still encounter issues, it might be useful to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance. They will help you via remote assistance.
