Hello, I have been using HP Instantink since last year and while I have noticed print count to be off (e.g. I saw few prints in my bill while we were traveling as a family and did not use the printer at all). But I did not care as much until recently, when I am seeing insanely high numbers. E.g. I printed ~20 pages for an application this month and a shipping label, but I am seeing 35 pages called out in my bill already. Worst, it's showing print-outs on a day when we didn't print at all. This breaks my trust in your billing. It's not about the couple of dollars you charged me, but about me now not trusting how you add the pages. I would like to see a better indicator of my print-outs, including a thumbnail for this month's bill to be sure.

Hi @penny8800,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you are experiencing discrepancies with your HP Instant Ink billing, which can definitely be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue.
Check Your Printer's Page Count
You can check the page count of your printer directly from the printer's control panel or through the HP Smart app. Compare this count with the one on your Instant Ink billing to confirm if there is a mismatch.
- From Printer Display: Navigate to the Printer Settings > Print Reports > Page Count (or a similar option depending on your model).
- Via HP Smart App: Open the app on your mobile or PC, select your printer, and go to the Printer Status section to view page usage.
Verify the HP Instant Ink Usage
Sometimes, your printer may send additional "phantom" pages (e.g., maintenance or diagnostic pages) to HP Instant Ink. These are typically counted but don’t involve actual printed content. If you notice this happening, you can:
- Look at Your HP Instant Ink Dashboard: Log in to your HP Instant Ink account, go to your Billing History, and check for days where the page count seems unusually high. The dashboard should show a list of print activities, and you might find extra pages listed as maintenance prints.
Review Printer Settings for Unexpected Prints
Ensure your printer isn’t set to print any maintenance or test pages automatically. If you find any such settings enabled (e.g., automatic cleaning, firmware updates, etc.), you can turn these off to avoid unnecessary page counts in the future.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
