Individual pixel control when printing -- and print density control

I am printing PCBs for toner transfer. I have discovered that the image I send to the printer doesn't get printed exactly. The printer seems to apply a diamond shaped mask to white out some pixels in a regular pattern but otherwise prints my image.

Using the SPLIX open source driver I established that the image is being prepared correctly at 1200DPI and sent to the printer, the printer is then changing the image before printing it. Using the print density control I can make it less bad but not fix it.

In the menu I have gone into System Setup -> Maintenance -> Image Mgr. -> Custom Color -> Print Density and set this to 10. The range is -10 to 10. I think that this changes the size of the diamonds that get whited out in the image before printing.

I have turned off all ECO features. I haven't tried changing the altitude setting though. Is it possible to turn off the print density control and get individual control over the pixels being printed? As the printer is advertised as 1200DPI and the diamond screen applied to the image has a much larger feature size than 1200DPI, it seems to reduce the effective resolution a lot.

I realize that the "edge enhancement"setting is probably related to this -- I will try it soon. Probably it will avoid the density reduction mask being applied along edges and hence get 1200dpi at least for the outlines of shapes. I tried to turn off all processing in effort to get as close to pixel level control as possible, but hadn't realized the signifcance of this particular setting.

Also, this topic is in the wrong forum, I realize there is a Printers > Samsung forum. Can mod please move this eventually?
