Hi, I am having problems with my HP Smart Tank 515. It shows Ink cartridge problem. This has been going now for weeks!
Every time it tries to print, it stall 3/4 of the way and then shows the error ink cartridge problem.
I tried searching fixes online and the usual solution is to replace the ink cartridge, so I bought a genuine ink cartridge and still has the same problem. It tries to print then stalls then shows the error ink cartridge problem.
I tried to print a blank page and no issues with paper jam. I tried to print 1 letter in yellow font - same problem. I tried to print 1 letter in black font - same problem. I have also done a hard reset, factory reset, unplug the cable to 60 seconds then replug. I am still having the same issue. I opened the printer and there are no foreign object that's causing this. Copy and print does not work only scan.
I need assistance with my problem and hoping someone has the same problem and has the solution.

Hi @JPNL,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Smart Tank 515 printer. It seems like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, but let's go through some additional steps to see if we can resolve the issue.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update the firmware.
- Check for Driver Updates: Make sure that you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. Visit the HP website, enter your printer model, and download the latest driver for your operating system.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and open the ink cartridge access door. Remove the ink cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth.
- Inspect for Protective Tape: Double-check that there is no protective tape or plastic film on the new ink cartridge. Sometimes, users forget to remove these protective materials, which can interfere with the printing process.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for about 60 seconds. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer. This can sometimes help in resetting the internal components.
- Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can help identify and resolve printing issues. Download and run this tool from the HP website.
Remember to always use genuine HP ink cartridges to ensure compatibility and optimal performance. If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may indicate a hardware issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
