My printer is just over a year old and it has stopped printing. I have gone through all of the steps suggested when this happens with the exception of the driver/software update, which the printer will not accept as it says that it is busy. Shutting it off and turing it back on does not change the outcome. Is there any practical thing to do other than tossing the printer out the window and not buying HP Printers again?

I managed to fix the problem using a pin. Best i could conclude, was that the ink hole from the cartridge to the print head, was plugged and all that was required was pushing a pin into the hole. I had hoped for such a practical solution from HP, but, nothing has been documented or provided. It would have been a crime to throw away a essentially new printer for a slight plug!

Thanks domHPissues, I too had this issue and got so frusrtated I bought a new printer. BUT I do not like being beaten.....
So I looked more deeply - the HP forum rather than the HP advice. I found and tried your fix with nothing to lose - it has worked for my printer too.
To be more specific I used the eye end of a needle to swizzle round in each of tubes that the printer cartridge slots into on the printer head carriage. I did this several times and on the last turn also pumped the cartridges in and out several times.
Persevere with this as it may take several attempts to get success.
When all combined these two actions appear to have have flushed or dislodged a blockage in the ink system. I then had to realign the print head again.
