Ink System Failure Officejet Pro 8600

I've tried some YouTube solutions saying it may need a cleaning kit.  The kit seemed to work as described and shown in videos, but the problem still persisted.  Looks like we'll have to get a new printer.  😞

@CLow88, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It’s definitely frustrating when you've tried a few solutions and the issue still lingers. The "Ink System Failure" error can be caused by a variety of issues, so it’s worth going through some additional troubleshooting steps before deciding to replace the printer.

Here are some things you can try:

1. Check Ink Cartridges and Contacts

  • Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges. Sometimes, a poor connection can cause the error.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. Gently wipe the metal contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges are inserted.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and try turning it on again. Sometimes, a simple reset can clear errors.

3. Perform a Printer Reset (Hard Reset)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Hold the # and 3 buttons on the printer while turning it back on.
  • Release the buttons when the display shows a reset message.
  • This resets the printer's settings and can often resolve persistent issues.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
  • Sometimes, bugs and errors can be addressed with an update.

5. Check for Paper Jams

  • Even a small bit of paper or debris inside the printer can cause system errors. Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer.

6. Try a Different Power Source

  • If your printer is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, try plugging it directly into a wall outlet to rule out power issues.

7. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall the printer drivers from Device Manager or the Control Panel and then reinstall them by downloading the latest drivers from the HP website. This can fix any corrupted software causing the error.
