This printer started acting up about a year ago with various ink issues (poor quality on colored prints, runny, gloppy or dried up cartridge from lack of use) I researched a bit and started fresh with a good cleaning of the ink cradle, cleaning of all contacts and fresh ink, it did well for a while. In December it started again (excess ink, poor quality on colors), repeated above and was good but went back to research. I took the suggestion of purchasing a new ink cradle with the mindset that if it happened again that would be my next step, welp it oh lucky day, it happened again. Tonight my son went to print color for a gift he is making, the print quality was terrible! I suggested swapping out the cradle I had on standby for just the emergency! While the printer was on we lifted the access door for the ink, removed ink cartridges, removed cradle, replace cradle with new one (being sure to lock the cradle), installed ink and closed access door. Printer went through it's priming and set off several codes at different times. A code that says "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on" (Printer has been turned off and unplugged from everywhere and everything it was possible to unplug from, several times) and code that said that there was a problem with the megenta cartridge. Here is where my problem now lies......the access door will not open!!! I have a cartridge that might be damage and apparently the ink system may have a problem and can't get to it! There is nothing impeding the door...I read a sensor possibly?? If it is that how much would that be to replace and can I do it myself?? Help!!

Greetings!
Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand there's an issue with the ink access door.
Appreciate you trying the steps. Don't worry, I'm here to help!
Let's try these steps -
1) Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
3) With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 60 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps.
If the issue still persists, this would confirm a hardware problem. I have sent you a private message with the details about the service options. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it. Click here for more details on how to access the private messages on HP Forums.
Hope this helps!
