I got a message to remove and check my color ink cartridge while I was in the middle of a print. I did that but it did help. After some research I found directions to clean the contacts but that didn't help either. Finally I replaced my ink cartridge even though the other one is almost new. I still have the same message.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 7210 Printer. I understand that you are getting cartridge error and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.
Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,
I recommend you perform a 'hard reset':
1. Ensure your printer is powered on.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3. Wait 60 seconds.
4. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
5. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
In addition to what you've already tried there's another aspect of the printer hardware that you can check:
Determine if the carriage chute is damaged
Follow these steps to determine if the carriage chute is broken. The carriage chute is the side wall of the carriage that holds a curved metal piece, called the x-bias spring.

Open the product cover and wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
-
Remove the cartridge.
- Looking in through either the cartridge access door or the output paper tray, look for a small plastic tab or the x-bias spring around the carriage area. The x-bias spring might be dislodged or missing if the small plastic tab in the carriage chute is broken. The broken tab might be in either one of the carriage chutes.

Determine the status of the carriage chute.
-
If the carriage chute is broken, close the product cover and continue with "Step six: Service the product."
-
Click here and refer the document for more step.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.
